Calves that Dont Breathe at Birth Small F....html (73.34 KB)An excellent article on difficult calvings though it doesn't mention ACIDOSIS - which occurs with a slow or delayed birth and results in lethargy and dopeyness. It is caused by a lack of oxygen and build up of CO2. Ideally an intravenous injection of bicarbonate is needed but in the absence of a vet or inability to locate a vein, addition of bicarbonate powder when the calf is tubed with colostrum can only help.
